Credentials

An active license where required, plus general liability and workers' comp insurance with certificates on file.

Workmanship

Manufacturer certification — at least one of GAF Master Elite, CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster, or Owens Corning Platinum Preferred.

Track record

A few years operating under current ownership and no unresolved complaints in the last year.
